Underpinned by a grounding in core art and design skills, the course will expose you to a diverse range of techniques, materials and processes whilst exploring influences, historical practice and artistic research. Most importantly, our modular structure allows you to specialise in areas that interest you.

Interactive Design
As new media evolves, designers need to be able to communicate through interactive technology. Learn how to produce and design interactive tools for use on mobile technology and the internet, promote and publish your own interactive portfolios and be at the cutting edge of the creative industry. Learn how to create effective design from concept to outcome. Last year our students undertook work placements with world famous visual design studio Atomhawk on a live interactive project.
Painting and Sculpture
Learn how to work in a range of creative 2D and 3D projects and expand your creative skills in painting, sculpture and beyond. You will work on a range of commission based projects involving research, development through to outcome. Links will be made through contextual references and external commissions.
Subjects covered include: Sculpture, Painting, Printmaking, Art & Design History Creative Photography, Commissions & Exhibitions, Business planning, Life Drawing and Fine Art.
Photography
You will learn both the creative and commercial aspects of photography using industry standard software including Photoshop and Lightroom. Through a series of vocationally designed assignments you will complete such projects as Fashion photography, Creative photography, Using video, Graphic design, Explore Art and design, Location photography and Studio photography ending in a self-negotiated project reflecting your own practise.
Subjects covered include: Studio Techniques, Location Photography, Digital Manipulation, Creative Photography, Video and Fashion Photography.
Animation
Explore a range of animation techniques that will prepare you for an exciting and rewarding career. You will be taught by our experienced and award winning team and be supported to explore a wide range of traditional and new media approaches to the discipline. You will cover 2 and 3 D animation, character rigging, rotoscoping, motion graphics, story boarding, character and stop motion animation. Learn how to use industry standard software applications.
You will also be given the opportunity to go on work placements and benefit from our partnerships with local industry. Previous students include Kafui Avornyo winner of the and Uisdean Ross who now works as an animator for TT Fusion.

3D Digital Design and Modelling
The 3D sector is huge so we provide you with a platform from which to develop your skills and find the pathway that best suits you. Explore a range of skills from character modelling, product modelling and architectural design. The 3D programme links directly into other areas including motion graphics and animation. We have close links with local industry and offer students a direct pathway into higher education and employment.

Digital Imaging
Knowing how to digitally manipulate and arm yourself with the creative tools that you need to compete in the digital industry. Use experimental digital and photographic techniques to produce creative work that can be used in a wide range of contexts. In this option you will use a range of methods to produce digitally manipulated imagery that can be developed into animation, design, photography and other art specialisms and enhance your Photoshop and photographic skills.
Motion Graphics
Design is not static. Motion Graphics dominate design in TV, Games, Film and Interactive Media. Use 2 and 3 dimensional techniques to produced animated communication graphics that can be used in a diverse range of contexts including advertising, br5oadcast design, film titles, mobile devices and games. This subject is closely connected to animation, 3D design and graphic design. Develop skills and experience in a range of industry standard software, focusing on the use of After Effects and Cinema 4D.
Illustration
From books and magazines, to packaging, adverts and interactive content, the demand for original and powerful illustration continues to grow. Both traditional and digital media are explored to maximise the creative potential of this subject. An experimental approach is encouraged with regards to ideas, concepts and outcomes.
Subjects covered include: Magazine & Book Illustration, Concept & Character Development, Storyboarding, Editorial illustration, Branding and Marketing and Decorative Illustration.
Graphic Design
This specialist area focuses on the commercial aspects of art and design, preparing design work for print and electronic publishing. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of stimulating projects and commissions, working alongside skilled lecturers and industry practitioners, to develop your appreciation of graphic design and the design industry.
Subjects covered include: Desk Top Publishing, E-Publishing, Motion Graphics/Animation, Package Design, Advertising Design, Brand Identity, Information Design and Design History.
Fashion and Textiles
This specialist area allows you to investigate a range of fashion and textiles skills. You will work in 2D and 3D producing decorative surface pattern and 3D products. You will work with a range of materials to construct creative textiles. Subjects covered include: Hot Textiles, Constructed Textiles/Fashion, Printed Textiles, Bonding, Trapping & Stitch, Paper Making, Felt Making and Dying.
You will be encouraged to develop your personal responses to projects briefs and communicate your ideas in a variety of ways and to present your ideas to a variety of audiences. The full course, leading to a BTEC Extended Diploma, is two years long. However, you will achieve a BTEC 90-Credit Diploma (worth 50% of the Extended Diploma) on successful completion of the first year. Progression to Year 2 is dependent on the successful completion of Year 1.
